‘Ink Drawing 1’ , 2024, video drawing
This drawing is made of a series of encounters of moving ink, in water and blown as a bubble on paper.
Different ink solutions reacted differently, their intricacies, complexities, shadows and shapes all unfolding infront of the still camera. Throughout there are glimpses of the space of the drawings making- clouds in the sky reflected or the shape of a window, glimpses of the times and moments of its making. The drawing is the process of it’s making.
When in the prcess of drawing, either like this, or on paper, I have the sense of something coming into existence, it is not that I ‘made’ or ‘created’ a drawing. I tried to have the mimium intervention possible with the ink, just a drop or several, or a bubble, and to record the ‘coming into existence’ And like my work on paper, I am fascinated by the role of the negative space, the white paper, or the ‘empty’ water. As soon as one droplet of ink lands, it is no longer a surface, but a dynamic space, that ‘holds’ everything in a responsive tension.
